Nottingham Panthers also were involved in a close game beating Newcastle Cobras 4-3 at Lower Parliament Street. In the other game, Ayr Scottish Eagles won away at Basingstoke 6-4. > ERIC IS TOP MINDER The Manchester Evening News Pink this week reports on Eric Raymond, Storm's new netminder. The following appeared with the headline ERIC IS TOP MINDER and a picture of Eric with the caption "ERIC RAYMOND...he's top of the charts" and a picture of Daryl Lipsey with the caption "DARYL LIPSEY...fan of netminder". The main points in the article are as follows: Signing for Manchester Storm has been a bit of a culture shock for Eric Raymond. The 24-year old netminder has gone straight to the top of the Superleague goaltending statistics in his five games so far for the Storm. The French-Canadian from Quebec has played for the farm teams of NHL teams Pittsburg, Montreal and Buffalo and started this season with Team Canada. Raymond had offers from a couple of teams in the Superleague but chose Manchester as he had heard good things about them. Daryl Lipsey said of Raymond, "He's a workaholic who takes training and preparation very seriously. He has made a big impact. A new face in the team always helps. Eric has a lot of experience and works hard off the ice. He's one of the first in the changing rooms working out before and after training sessions. He has a good attitude and it rubs off on the other players. He encourages players a lot on the ice and talks to the defencemen all the time." > LATEST PLAYER RUMOURS The latest unsubstantiated rumours are that Shawn Byram's wife is insisting that he goes home at the end of the season and that Jeff Lindsay will be going too. > LATEST SUPERLEAGUE TABLE Pl W D OL NL +/- Points Cardiff Devils 30 21 2 0 7 +49 44 Sheffield Steelers 29 19 3 2 5 +33 43 Newcastle Cobras 29 14 2 5 8 +12 35 Nottingham Panths 30 14 1 2 13 +7 31 Ayr Scottish E 29 12 6 0 11 -7 30 Basingstoke Bison 31 9 2 2 18 -28 22 Manchester Storm 26 8 2 1 15 -38 19 Bracknell Bees 26 8 2 0 16 -28 18 Up to and including games on 18 January > FORTHCOMING STORM FIXTURES TUE 21 JAN - Sheffield Steelers v Manchester Storm, Superleague, 7.30 face off. After I moaned about the Web stats not working, I found the problem - it was my fault! The statistics are tracked by loading up a tiny transparent .gif picture from the Web Tracker server and this enables the stats to be recorded. While I was redesigning the front page last week I temporarily switched off the image so the page would load quicker off-line and forgot to switch it back on when I'd finished due to it being bery late at night at the time! The stats are now working fine, although I have lost almost a week's data because of this! > TWO NEW PAGES ON INTER THE STORM There are two new pages now on Inter The Storm. There is a sound clips page which has "humourous" clips with Manchester Storm and ice hockey the theme. This page will grow to include sound recordrd from the Nyenx (hopefully!). The other new page is Canadian Junior Hockey and explains the Canadian Junior Hockey system for the novice like me! > LINKS TO OTHER GUESTBOOKS Inter The Storm now has links to other ice hockey Guestbook pages including the new ThunderFlash Guestbook. > GET BACK ISSUES OF STORM BLITZ All previous issues of Storm Blitz are still available.
