In front of approx 9200 fans at the Nynex Arena, Storm started as if it was still the final period in Sheffield letting in three goals in the first ten minutes or so. Craig Woodcroft finally got one back for Storm to make it 3-1 but Cardiff scored again to make the end of period score 4-1. Cardiff were good, but Storm weren't helping themselves. There was an improvement in the second period but it was Cardiff who scored again with their 5th goal. Dale Jago put Storm back in with the smallest of shouts at 5-2 but for the rest of the game, a combination of good work from Finnie and lethargic Cardiff attacks saw the scoreline remain the same throughout the third period. > WINS FOR AYR & NOTTINGHAM (Sunday) - Ayr Scottish Eagles have now almost caught third placed Newcastle Cobras as they won and the Cobras lost. Bracknell were Ayr's victims as they won 7-3 at the Hive, while Nottingham Panthers, also chasing third place saw off the Cobras 3-1 in Newcastle. > AYR v JAPAN Japan have now drawn all their games so far as Wednesday night's game at Ayr Scottish Eagles was drawn 6-6. Ayr went 3-0 up in the first period before Japan came back to 3-2 at the end of the first. They equalised at 3-3 in the second. Ayr then retook the lead at 4-3 before the end of the second period. Japan equalised again in the third period before they went 5-4 up. Ayr then equalised before Japan scored again to lead 6-5. With just 8 seconds remaining Ayr equalised again to end a dramatic game. > STORM TV PROGRAMME ON SATURDAY The much-predicted new Storm TV programme will begin on Saturday 8 February on Granada TV and will run every week until the end of the season. If successful, it will run throughout next season. It is scheduled for 2.50 - 3.20pm I believe, although I haven't checked the TV guide yet to confirm this! The time is likely to vary slightly each week as it will be following the early-afternoon film (Carry On Camping or whatever). > EUROPEAN LEAGUE FINALS TPS Turku have won the European Hockey League final defeating Dynamo Moscow 5-2. In the semi-finals played the previous day, TPS had overcome Sparta Prague 5-3, while Dynamo Moscow had beaten Frolunda Helsinki 3-2 after overtime. > LATEST SUPERLEAGUE TABLE Pl W D OL NL +/- Points Cardiff Devils 35 25 3 0 7 +66 53 Sheffield Steelers 34 22 3 2 7 +38 49 Newcastle Cobras 33 15 2 5 11 +7 37 Ayr Scottish E 34 15 6 0 13 -5 36 Nottingham Panths 35 16 1 2 16 +0 35 Bracknell Bees 33 12 2 0 19 -26 26 Manchester Storm 33 11 2 1 19 -43 25 Basingstoke Bison 35 9 3 2 21 -37 23 Up to and including games on 2 February > FORTHCOMING STORM FIXTURES WED 05 FEB - Manchester Storm v Newcastle Cobras, Superleague, 7.30 face off.
