Storm's performance far outweighed any expectations and showed that maybe, just maybe the Superleague is a stronger force in European ice hockey than we all thought. Moscow Dynamo, who had shut-out Sparta Prague 4-0 in the last EHL game, must have come to Manchester expecting an easy ride. Grant Sjerven in the net kept out everything for the first two periods as the game remained goalless. Moscow finally broke the deadlock after 46 minutes with a goal and just for a moment it looked like Storm might fold under all the pressure. Mikael Wiklander prompted the first set of wild celebrations with an equaliser three minutes later. After 51 minutes Moscow scored again and surely Storm couldn't come back again... tell that to Hilton Ruggles and Brad Turner! On 57 minutes Ruggles magestically set up the equaliser for Turner and the 4500 crowd went wild - even the row of Steelers fan in front of me were cheering and screaming STORM! The game went into sudden death overtime and Moscow scored the game winner after just 3 minutes. This didn't stop the celebrations of another European Hockey League point against one of the strongest teams outside North America. > PRAGUE DEFEAT BOLZANO In the other Division F game, Sparta Prague defeated Bolzano 4-1 to go into second place in the division table. > TUESDAY B&H RESULTS In Group A, Sheffield Steelers travelled to Telford Tigers for the outstanding game and won 7-3. In Group B, Cardiff Devils travelled to Slough Jets and won 13-2 and Nottingham Panthers beat Bracknell Bees 4-2 to ensure that Storm play Bracknell in the B&H Cup quarter final tie. > LATEST EHL DIVISION F TABLE Pl W OW OL L +/- Points Moscow Dynamo 2 1 1 0 0 + 5 5 Sparta Prague 2 1 0 0 1 - 1 3 Manchester Storm 2 0 0 2 0 - 2 2 Bolzano 2 0 1 0 1 - 2 2 Win=3; Overtime Win=2; Overtime Loss=1, Loss=0 > FINAL B&H GROUP A TABLE Pl W D L +/- Points Manchester Storm 10 7 2 1 +44 16 Newcastle Cobras 10 6 2 2 +35 14 Ayr Scottish Eagles 10 6 2 2 +30 14 Sheffield Steelers 10 5 2 3 +26 12 ----------------------------------------------- Telford Tigers 10 1 0 9 -61 2 Paisley Pirates 10 1 0 9 -78 2 Manchester Storm, Newcastle Cobras, Ayr Scottish Eagles and Sheffield Steelers have qualified for the quarter-finals. > FORTHCOMING STORM GAMES DATE OPPONENTS F/O VENUE COMPETITION Sat 4 Oct Cardiff Devils 7.00 Home Superleague Tue 7 Oct Nottingham Panthers 6.00 Away Superleague Sun 12 Oct Basingstoke Bison 6.00 Away Superleague Tue 14 Oct Sparta Prague 7.30 Away EHL Division F > TRAVELLING AWAY TO WATCH STORM Newcastle Cobras v Manchester Storm Tuesday 7 October 1997 face off TBA The following information was taken from THE STORM SHELTER (http://www.omen1.demon.co.uk/storm/index.html) Address The Ice Stadium, Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham.
