Mikael Wiklander opened the scoring after 11 minutes to put Storm 1-0 up. There was no more scoring until Stephen Cooper, playing up front in place of injured Brad Rubachuk, scored to make it 2-0 after 32 minutes. Just a minute later Mike Morin increased the lead to 3-0 and Storm look set to win convincingly. On 37 minutes Weaver pulled a goal back but Wiklander scored again three minutes into the third period to make the score 4-1. Lascala scored a minute later to give Newcastle some hope at 4-2 and Lambert scored on 55 minutes to set up an exciting end to the game with the score now 4-3. Storm scored the fifth straight away with Jeff Jablonski scoring and Dave Morrison's last minute empty net goal gave Storm a well deserved 6-3 victory. > SHEFFIELD AND CARDIFF BOTH DEFEATED In two shock results in the Superleague on Sunday night, both Sheffield Steelers and Cardiff Devils were defeated. Steelers travelled to Bracknell Bees and went in front after a Tim Cranston goal on 10 minutes. Pellerin equalised on 16 minutes and Whistle put Bees into a 2-1 lead 6 minutes into the second period. Tim Cranston scored again to level the scores after 36 minutes and the scored remained level until just before the end of the game. To celebrate Bracknell's 10 year anniversary, Chris Brant scored the winning goal with just over a minute remaining. Steelers puller Greco but could not score and Bracknell had a memorable 3-2 win. Meanwhile Bracknell's rivals Basingstoke Bison were also having a good day with a 4-2 defeat of Cardiff Devils at the Playground. Hurley scored the only goal of the first period to give Bison a 1-0 lead. Little made the score 2-0 before Cardiff came back to level the score with goals from McEwan and Noble. Basingstoke wrapped the game up though with goals from Conway and Stefan to inflict a rare defeat on Cardiff. > DEVILS SOUNDLY DEFEAT COBRAS Cardiff Devils defeated Newcastle Cobras 6-2 in the first leg of the B&H Cup semi final in Cardiff on Saturday evening. Steve Thornton opened the scoring for Cardiff on 17 minutes on a double power play before going on to take a 3-0 lead. Newcastle pulled the game back to 3-2 with goals from Randy Smith and Brett Stewart but Cardiff scored three more unanswered goals to win 6-2 and set up what should be a straight-forward second leg in Newcastle on Thursday. > NOTTINGHAM THRASH STEELERS IN EXPRESS CUP Nottingham Panthers got the Express Cup underway with a thrashing of Sheffield Steelers at Lower Parliament Street on Saturday evening. Panthers opened the scoring after just 18 seconds from Laxdall and there was no way back as Nottingham ran riot. Carpenter, Adey and Leach made it 4-0 by the end of the first period. Laxdall scored the only goal of the second period and Panthers led 5-0. Dion Del Monte briefly gave Sheffield hope at 5-1 but Nottingham finished off the floundering Steelers with four more goals from Morgan, Bobyk, Knox and Webber to win the game 9-1. > NEW PLAYER TO ARRIVE SOON Kurt Kleinendorst has confirmed that a new player will arrive in Manchester ahead of the December 15th transfer deadline. He will apparantly add physical presence to the squad. > JAGO & RUBACHUK OUT OF B&H TIE Dale Jago and Brad Rubachuk are set to miss Storm's vital Benson & Hedges Cup semi-final second leg tie at Ayr Scottish Eagles on Saturday 8 November. Both are injured and are not expected to have recovered in time for the game. The game is live on SKY SPORTS and there will also be FULL COMMENTARY on the radio with GMR broadcasting live from the Centrum Arena. Reports on the game will also be featured on BBC Radio 5 Live. > THE EXPRESS CHALLENGE CUP FIXTURES ANNOUNCED The fixtures for the new Express Challenge Cup have been announced. That wasn't what I meant! I meant to say that Ayr had travelled to NEWCASTLE and won 3-2! Also, Cardiff Devils played Team Canada on Thursday 30th not Friday 31st. My mistake - at least you know I don't just copy all this from somewhere else!! > BISON SOUNDLY BEATEN BY TEAM CANADA On Wednesday 29th, Basingstoke Bison hosted Team Canada in a challenge match. The first period ended goalless but Team Canada ended up 5-0 winners after they turned on the pressure. > BUD ICE SCREENSAVER TIP Thanks to Jon Orr (Ayr fan) for this tip! If you've installed the Bud Ice screensaver and you are bored of the alarm sound that it plays when you score a goal, you can use Fiesta by The Pogues (Storm's goal music) instead! Simply download Fiesta from the Manchester Storm Discography on Into The Storm and then rename the WAV file alarm.wav and place it in the c:\windows directory and overwrite the existing file. When you score a goal it will play Fiesta instead of the alarm sound - job's a goodun! > LATEST SUPERLEAGUE TABLE Pl W D OL NL +/- Points Manchester Storm 7 4 2 1 0 +12 11 Ayr Scottish Eagles 6 4 0 1 1 +7 9 Nottingham Panthers 6 3 2 0 1 +0 8 Cardiff Devils 5 2 2 0 1 +5 6 Sheffield Steelers 5 2 1 1 1 +4 6 Basingstoke Bison 7 2 2 0 3 -4 6 Bracknell Bees 5 2 1 0 2 -6 5 Newcastle Cobras 7 0 0 0 7 -18 0 Win=2; Draw=1; Overtime Loss=1; Normal Loss=0 > LATEST EHL DIVISION F TABLE Pl W OW OL L +/- Points Moscow Dynamo 4 3 1 0 0 +17 11 Manchester Storm 4 2 0 2 0 +6 8 Sparta Prague 4 1 0 0 3 -9 3 Bolzano 4 0 1 0 3 -14 2 Win=3; Overtime Win=2; Overtime Loss=1; Loss=0 > LATEST EXPRESS CHALLENGE CUP TABLE Pl W D OL NL +/- Points Nottingham Panthers 1 1 0 0 0 +8 2 Manchester Storm 0 0 0 0 0 +0 0 Ayr Scottish Eagles 0 0 0 0 0 +0 0 Cardiff Devils 0 0 0 0 0 +0 0 Basingstoke Bison 0 0 0 0 0 +0 0 Bracknell Bees 0 0 0 0 0 +0 0 Newcastle Cobras 0 0 0 0 0 +0 0 Sheffield Steelers 1 0 0 0 1 -8 0 Win=2; Draw=1; Overtime Loss=1; Normal Loss=0 * point system not yet confirmed * > FORTHCOMING STORM GAMES DATE OPPONENTS F/O VENUE COMPETITION Sat 8 Nov Ayr Scottish Eagles 6.30 Away B&H Cup SF Leg 2 Sun 9 Nov Cardiff Devils 6.00 Away Superleague Tue 11 Nov Sheffield Steelers 7.30 Home Superleague Sat 15 Nov Sheffield Steelers 7.00 Away Superleague > GETTING TO STORM AWAY GAMES The following information is taken from THE STORM SHELTER (http://www.omen1.demon.co.uk/storm.html) Ayr Scottish Eagles v Manchester Storm Saturday 8 November 1997 face off 6.30 Address Centrum Arena, Prestwick Toll, Prestwick, Ayr Telephone 0129 267 1600 Capacity 2733 Directions M6 North joining the A74 briefly before turning off towards Dumfries on the A75.
