Rick was relieved of the coaching post at the Cobras a week ago but was continuing to play. He attended Storm's game with Steelers on Tuesday with a view to joining Storm. He is said to be thinking the move over. Rick Brebant is a 34 year old Canadian who has been in the UK for ten years and was voted Player Of The Year in 1991. > MISERABLE STORM DEFEATED BY STEELERS With just about the best media live coverage Storm have received for a Superleague game, they threw away a 2-0 lead to go down 5-2 against arch-rivals Sheffield Steelers at the Nynex Arena on Tuesday night. SKY TV were broadcasting the game live and both BBC GMR and BBC Radio Sheffield were broadcasting full radio commentary to Greater Manchester and South Yorkshire. It all seemed so easy in the first period as Brad Turner opened the scoring after 10 minutes. Mikael Wiklander scored the second of what seemed like it would be many, on the powerplay after 17 minutes. Suddenly as the second period was in full swing a disasterous 3 and a half minutes saw Sheffield Steelers score Ed Courtney score twice and Tony Hand get a goal. Suddenly Storm were losing and not looking like they could rectify things. The third period saw Storm attempt to get back into the game, but they couldn't manage to score. With four minutes remaining Tim Cranston got a fourth goal for Sheffield and Ed Courtney scored an empty net goal which was also his hat-trick goal. Most of the 7092 left disappointed, but at least there is still chance of a quick revenge as the two teams meet - with far less media spotlight - at Sheffield this coming Saturday. > COBRAS GET FIRST SUPERLEAGUE WIN Newcastle Cobras finally got off the mark in the Superleague on Thursday night with a 5-4 victory over Nottingham Panthers. In new coach Dale Lambert's first game in charge, Newcastle came back from 1-0 down to lead 3-1 at the half hour mark with goals from Weaver, Rautiainen and Trumbley. Nottingham levelled the scores from Neinhaus and Dallman but Pegg and Johnson put Newcastle back into a two goal lead in the third period. Nottingham scored another to make it 5-4 but they couldn't take the game to overtime and Newcastle got their first Superleague points of the season. > AYR WIN AT BEES & CARDIFF IN EXPRESS CUP On Wednesday night, Ayr Scottish Eagles travelled to Bracknell Bees in the Express Challenge Cup and won 4-2. Bucsis opened the scoring for Bracknell on 7 minutes but Steer equalised just before the first period break. Ayr scored two goals in the 29th minute from Montanari and Steer to lead 3-1. Brant pulled the score back to 3-2 on 34 minutes. The third period saw just one further goal - Purdie scored for Ayr with 10 minutes of the game remaining. On Thursday night, Ayr travelled to Cardiff Devils and defeated the Superleague Champions 7-4 to move top of the Express Challenge Cup group table. > REGIONAL CEEFAX TO INCLUDE STORM NEWS BBC's teletext service, Ceefax, is to expand on Monday 17 November to include regional pages.
