Moscow opened the scoring on 3 minutes and scored a second to lead 2-0 at the end of the first period. A Craig Woodcroft goal three minutes into the second period gave Storm hope. Moscow then turned on the pressure with four more goals to lead the game 6-1 at the end of the second period. Jim Hrivnak took over in goal at the start of the third period as Grant Sjerven was injured. Stefan Ketola scored the second Storm goal on 41 minutes but Moscow continued their dominance eventually winning 9-3 with Hilton Ruggles scoring Storm's third goal on 47 minutes. Craig Woodcroft was Storm's Man Of The Match while Mikael Wiklander and Dominic Maltais were both ejected with 5+game penalties. Jeff Tomlinson played in the game following his injury the previous week against Sheffield Steelers, but Brad Rubachuk did not. Sparta Prague v Bolzano result not yet available. > STEELERS MOVE THIRD Also on Tuesday in a match broadcast live on BBC Radio Sheffield, Sheffield Steelers were looking to do Storm a favour by beating second-placed Ayr Scottish Eagles at Sheffield Arena in a Superleague game. Tony Hand scored for Sheffield towards the end of the first period. Suspended Cory Beaulieu commentated on the game with Gareth Hampshire. The second period was scoreless but Steelers scored twice more in the first half of the third period with goals from Longstaff and Andre Malo. Ayr scored within seconds to keep the game alive with 11 minutes remaining. Steelers held out for the rest of the third period to move third in the Superleague. Tony Hand won Man Of The Match for Steelers. The Expresss Cup game on Wednesday 19th, Bracknell Bees v Sheffield Steelers (face off 8.00) can also be heard on Radio Sheffield with full match commentary once again. > BACK ON TRACK WITH 8-3 DEFEAT OF BISON Storm got back to winning ways on Sunday night at the Nynex Arena with an 8-3 victory over Basingstoke Bison. Stefan Ketola opened the scoring after 4 minutes of the game and Craig Woodcroft made it 2-0 after 7 minutes. Basingstoke pulled it back to 2-1 with 3 minutes remaining of the first period from a Conway goal. The second period was one way traffic with four unanswered Storm goals in five minutes. Stefan Ketola, Rick Judson, Jeff Jablonski and Mikael Wiklander all put Storm into a commanding second period 6-1 lead. The third period was closer as Hurley scored for Bison on 43 minutes. Dominic Maltais made it 7-2 on 54 minutes and then Conway scored a short handed goal on 58 minutes. Mike Morin wrapped up the scoring in the final minute as Storm returned to the top of the Superleague (even if they have played 3 games more than Ayr). > STEELERS BEAT STORM AGAIN Storm travelled to Sheffield Arena on Saturday night seeking revenge for the 5-2 defeat last Tuesday. Dave Morrison opened the scoring on 6 minutes to give Storm their first of four leads in the game. This one lasted only 35 seconds before Ron Shudra equalised for Sheffield. Hilton Ruggles restored Storm's lead on 11 minutes. Ed Courtney equalised on 18 minutes to make the score 2-2. The second period started with me in the queue for some fish (Nicky Chinn had eaten all the pies). I missed a goal from Dominic Maltais that restored Storm's lead again on 23 minutes. I was back for Allison's equaliser for Steelers after 31 minutes but it didn't stay level for long as the 33rd minute saw a Stefan Ketola goal that put Storm into their fourth and final lead at 4-3. The game then turned with Steelers scoring two goals from Longstaff and Plommer within 5 minutes of Storm's lead. The final period saw Storm try but not hard enough as Steelers held on in front of a bumper (for Sheffield!) 8949 crowd. > OTHER WEEKEND SUPERLEAGUE GAMES On Saturday in the Superleague, Ayr Scottish Eagles went to the top of the table with an 8-4 home win over Bracknell Bees. Ayr won all three periods 3-1, 3-2 and 2-1. Nottingham Panthers defeated Basingstoke Bison 3-2 after overtime. Panthers led 1-0 after the first period but Bison scored twice in the second to lead 2-1 before Nottingham levelled the game with an equalising goal in the third period to take the game into overtime. Panthers won the game in overtime to move just one point behind Storm in the table. On Sunday in the Superleague, Cardiff Devils defeated Sheffield Steelers 4-3. Hodge, Sacratini and Evans put Cardiff 3-0 up in the first period. The second period was scoreless, but in the third period Sheffield came back with three goals to level the game before Matulik scored Cardiff's winner near the end of the game. Newcastle Cobras had their second consecutive victory with a 5-4 overtime win over Bracknell Bees. > BREBANT SIGNS FOR STORM Manchester Storm completed the signing of ex-Newcastle Cobras player/coach Rick Brebant on Friday. He made his debut in the game at Sheffield Steelers on Saturday. > STORM COMPLAIN OVER TOMLINSON INJURY Manchester Storm have made an official complaint over the incident in Tuesday's game with Sheffield Steelers. The incident that has angered Storm's management was when Jeff Tomlinson was slashed across the hand by Corey Beaulieu resulting in a lengthy injury. About Beaulieu, Kurt Kleinendorst is reported to have said, "Vicious guys like that should not be in the game." The unprovoked slash at Jeff Tomlinson took place just after Storm had scored to go 2-0 into the lead in the first period. Referee Andy Carson simply gave Beaulieu a 2 minute penalty. Tomlinson left the ice and Steelers went on to win the game 5-2. Cory Beaulieu has since been given a 3 match ban. > INTO THE STORM UPDATES Following Manchester Storm - updated to include info about extra radio and Ceefax coverage.
