With three divisions now completed (in effect), and only the final round of
fixtures remaining in the other three, the situation regarding second place
teams is now a lot clearer.
The two best second place teams will go through.
The teams are separated as follows:
1. points
2. goal difference
3. number of goals scored
4. number of games won in regulation time
5. number of games won in overtime
6. lots drawn
For points 1-5 above only the games played against 1st and 3rd place teams
will be considered!
(I think the above is correct. I spoke to Paolo Ianieri of the IIFF today
on this matter.)
Divisions A, E and F are now resolved. (Actually one game remains in 'E'
between Amiens and EV Zug, but will have no bearing.)
The second place teams from these divisions curently stand at:
Division Second placed team Points Goal Diff Goals
E Lada Togliatti 7 +2
F Storm 7 +1 16
A Jokerit Helsinki 5
Jokerit are therefore already out of the running.
Without going into all the permutations here are the crucial results which
would dislodge Storm from being the second 'second placed team'.
Division B

HPK beat Mannheim in REGULATION time.

Bratislava look like the team most likely to be best rated second place
team. Basically we need Turku or Lulea to pull out a BIG result in their
last game. However if BOTH of them do this we will still go out!
