Hello hockey people. On Sunday night there was a media programme on Radio 5 Live that discussed, amongst other things, the live coverage of the B&H final. The spokesperson interviewed said that one off coverage of games in the past had not affected the audience profile much, but that the station was looking at their policy on minority sports like hockey and netball (sorry basketball) again. The spokesperson denied that this had anything to do with the escalating cost of covering soccer (sorry, football is played with an oval ball where I come from, boyo). Anyway, mention of focus groups and other such New Labour nonsense was made. Ice hockey coverage has improved a bit recently, which may or may not be related to Bob Ballard moving from Radio Sheffield to 5 Live. So...if you would like to encourage hockey coverage on Radio 5 and have complementary things to say about coverage of the B&H final (other than it got David Mellor off the air for an hour), they can be contacted at 5live@bbc.co.uk or sport@bbc.co.uk. Can't do any harm. Cheers. Mike J.
