When a player signs in another league, he is technically "suspended" by the club not "left".
In this case, it basically means that if he returns to the ECHL, he can only return to Charlotte, and not suddenly pop up in another ECHL teams jersey. The Checkers hold his ECHL rights until his contract with them runs out.
