All players in the NHL must have two working eyes. Presumably the risk of losing the one functional mince pie is too high. (There would probably be quite an interesting lawsuit as this is North America). You can play in other leagues with monocular vision. There's a kid called Beauregard (ironic) who had an eye put out by a high stick in junior a few years ago who now plays in the IHL. He scored on the play when he was injured..he said he had one last look at the goal and shot..he thought it would be the last time he ever played.
