Lancashire Amateur League


1893-94

• 1893-94 was the opening season of the league, and a single division of seven teams was played.
• The league was formed in April 1893 after being initially proposed by Eccles FC at a meeting at the Crown Hotel in Manchester.
• Five of the nine teams present eventually joined, with two more added before the season started.
• None of the teams were already in a league, and saw joining as an easy way of arranging fixtures throughout the season.
• All 7 teams completed this opening season 1893-94, though two left at the end and so did not compete in the second season.
• Note that there is no final table available and the below table is taken from all the known results - a number of results are still missing.
• Blackburn Etrurians are confirmed as the first Champions, as reported by the local paper. This means that Eccles were confirmed as runners-up due to the known results

OUTGOING
• Manchester Social - no league - local friendlies. They later joined the Longsight & District League in 1901, then the Manchester Sunday School League, and then in 1904, the Manchester Amateur League. They folded just before the start of the 1906-07 season
• Preston Association - no league - local friendlies. They didn't re-join a league, though did try to change their name to Preston FC in 1899, but this was rejected following a protest from Preston North End. They folded in 1902
