Lancashire Amateur League


1894-95

• 1894-95 was the second and final season of the league, and a single division of six teams was played.
• With Preston Association and Manchester Social chooing to drop out of the league, one additional member came in to make it six teams, and 10 league games each.
• All 6 teams completed the season, but details are sketchy about why the leage ended. It seems that the proposers Eccles were not happy about their own performance having dropped from 2nd to what appears to be bottom of the league, and with more clubs likely to drop out, there were not enough to continue.
• Note that there is no final table available and the below table is taken from all the known results - a number of results are still missing.
• It is not clear who the Champions of the second season were, though it seems likely that Blackburn Etrurians retained the title, given that they were a strong team. Indeed Blackburn Rovers signed a number of their players and the Etrurians went on to win the Lancashire Amateur Cup for the first of 4 times the following season 1895-96.
• Interesting to see the fortunes of Old Hulmeians change for the better after being bottom of the league the previous season.

OUTGOING
• Blackburn Etrurians - no league - local friendlies, but most famously won the Lancashire Amateur Cup the following season. They eventually joined the new Lancashire Amateur League when it started in 1899
• Brooklands - no league - local friendlies, but eventually joined the new Lancashire Amateur League in 1911 before folding during World War 1. They were set to re-form in 1919 but it didn't happen
• Chorlton-cum-Hardy - no league - local friendlies, but did join the new Lancashire Amateur League from 1903 to 1955 when they folded. They also won the 1906-07 Lancashire Amateur Cup
• Eccles - no league - local friendlies, but they did not join the new Lancashire Amateur League, instead joining the Manchester Amateur League in 1903 before folding in 1906
• Old Hulmeians - no league - local friendlies until joining the new Lancashire Amateur League in 1903. They later changed their name to Manchester South End in 1932, before eventually folding in 1950
• Owens College - no league - local college friendlies until joining the new Lancashire Amateur League at its launch in 1899. They folded in 1903
